Awareness

Awareness is that state of mind which takes in everything-the crows flying across the sky, the flowers on the trees, the people sitting in front, the colors they are wearing- being extensively aware, which needs watching, observing, taking in the shape of the leaf, the shape of the trunk, the shape of the head of another, what he is doing.    ~Jiddu Krishnamurti

God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God.

Did you know that God can use a single moment to transform your life for the better?

God is always working, even when we have no idea what He's doing. He loves to bless us with His amazing, awe-inspiring goodness, even when we least expect it or when things don't seem to be going the right way.

Romans 8:28 is a popular verse but never gets old. To me, it's one of the most encouraging verses in the entire Bible. "And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them" (NLT).

I love the word "everything" in this verse. We tend to think of bad things and difficult seasons, but "everything" includes more. It includes the good things as well as the things that we are indifferent about. God takes all of those things and works them out for our good.

He wants you to be the kind of person who thinks about His promises all the time, who believes the best, and who keeps hoping when others just give up. If you live this way, I believe you'll be amazed at how God works in your life. You'll experience His favor in what I call a "God-ordained moment."

A God-ordained moment is an incredible, supernatural event that God's been setting up, working behind the scenes so that you can experience His goodness at just the right time.

These God-ordained moments don't come on our schedule, but when they come, all we can say is: "Wow!"

I will not be shaken.

Psalm 16:8
8 I have set the LORD always before me.
Because he is at my right hand,
      I will not be shaken.

The Cab Ride

The Cab Ride

I
arrived at the address and honked the horn.
After waiting a few minutes
I walked to the
door and knocked.. 'Just a minute', answered a
frail, elderly voice. I could hear something
being dragged across the floor.

After
a long pause, the door opened. A small woman in
her 90's stood before me. She was wearing a
print dress and a pillbox hat with a veil pinned
on it, like somebody out of a 1940's
movie.

By her side was a small nylon
suitcase. The apartment looked as if no one had
lived in it for years. All the furniture was
covered with sheets.

There were no
clocks on the walls, no knickknacks or utensils
on the counters. In the corner was a cardboard
box filled with photos and
glassware.

'Would you carry my bag
out to the car?' she said. I took the suitcase
to the cab, then returned to assist the
woman.

She took my arm and we walked
slowly toward the curb.

She kept
thanking me for my kindness. 'It's nothing', I
told her.. 'I just try to treat my passengers
the way I would want my mother
treated'.

'Oh, you're such a good
boy', she said. When we got in the cab, she gave
me an address and then asked, 'Could you drive
through downtown?'

'It's not the
shortest way,' I answered
quickly..

'Oh, I don't mind,' she
said. 'I'm in no hurry. I'm on my way to a
hospice'.

I looked in the rear-view
mirror. Her eyes were glistening. 'I don't have
any family left,' she continued in soft
voice.. 'The doctor says I don't have very
long.' I quietly reached over and shut off the
meter.

'What route would you like me
to take?' I asked.

For the next two
hours, we drove through the city. She showed me
the building where she had once worked as an
elevator
operator.

We drove through the
neighborhood where she and her husband had lived
when they were newlyweds She had me pull up in
front of a furniture warehouse that had once
been a ballroom where she had gone dancing as a
girl.

Sometimes she'd ask me to slow
in front of a particular building or corner and
would sit staring into the darkness, saying
nothing.

As the first hint of sun was
creasing the horizon, she suddenly said, 'I'm
tired. Let's go now'.

We drove in
silence to the address she had given me. It was
a low building, like a small convalescent home,
with a driveway that passed under a
portico.

Two orderlies came out to
the cab as soon as we pulled up. They were
solicitous and intent, watching her every move.
They must have been expecting her.

I
opened the trunk and took the small suitcase to
the door. The woman was already seated in a
wheelchair.

'How much do I owe you?'
she asked, reaching into her
purse.

'Nothing,' I
said

'You have to make a living,' she
answered.

'There are other
passengers,' I responded.

Almost
without thinking, I bent and gave her a hug. She
held onto me tightly.

'You gave an
old woman a little moment of joy,' she
said.
'Thank you.'

I squeezed her
hand, and they walked into the dim morning
light.. Behind me, a door shut. It was the sound
of the closing of a life..

I didn't
pick up any more passengers that shift. I drove
aimlessly lost in thought. For the rest of that
day, I could hardly talk. What if that woman had
gotten an angry driver, or one who was impatient
to end his shift?
What
if I had refused to take the run, or had honked
once, then driven away?

On a quick
review, I don't think that I have done anything
more important in my life.

We're
conditioned to think that our lives revolve
around great moments.

But great
moments often catch us unaware-beautifully
wrapped in what others may consider a small
one.

PEOPLE MAY NOT REMEMBER EXACTLY
WHAT YOU DID, OR WHAT YOU SAID ~BUT~THEY WILL
ALWAYS REMEMBER HOW YOU MADE THEM
FEEL.

You won't get any big surprise
in 10 days if you send this to ten people. But,
you might help make the world a little kinder
and more compassionate by sending.
it on and
reminding us that often it is the random acts of
kindness that most benefit all of
us.

Thank you, my
friend...

Life
may not be the party we hoped for, but while we
are here we might as well dance.

Our galaxy has 400 billion stars...there are 100 billion + galaxies

Backdrop: Our galaxy, the Milky Way is approximately 80 to 120 light years wide containing about 400 billion stars (our sun is but one such star); so that if we traveled in a space ship moving at 186,000 miles per second (the speed of light) approximately 100,000 Earth years would be required to cross from one side to another.

Further: The estimate of number of galaxies in the Milky Way universe (our universe) is debatable, however estimates are generally 100 billion with some as high as 500 billion.  Remember it takes 100,000 miles at light-speed to travel across our galaxy.  Then, there is that problem of traveling through space from one galaxy to another.  Our closest neighbor galaxy is about 2.4 million light years (thus 2.4 millions years at light-speed to arrive there). Indeed, that's a long trip for the kids to be entertained.

Are humans on the third planet (Earth) revolving around the sun the only intelligent (so to speak) life in the universe?

That day the Lord exalted Joshua...

"That day the LORD exalted Joshua in the sight of all Israel; and they revered him all the days of his life…"
(Joshua 4:14, NIV)

TODAY'S WORD from Joel and Victoria

I love the promise that God gave to Joshua. He said, "Joshua, today I will begin to make you great in the eyes of all the Israelites." He was saying, "Today, I'm going to start releasing more of My favor, My blessings, My increase." But notice, there was a set time God began to release favor in a new way.

Friend, God wants to do the same thing for you. He wants to release His blessings and favor in such a way that it makes you a great parent, a great spouse, a great leader, a great employee, a great friend, a great business person. He is saying to us what He said to Joshua, "This day I'm going to begin to make your name great. This day I'm going to begin to release My favor in a new way. I'm going to open doors that no man can shut." It is a set time of God's favor. Get ready! Make room in your thinking. Stay open to Him and keep an attitude of faith and expectancy because this day God wants to overwhelm you with His blessing and favor in every area of your life!

A PRAYER FOR TODAY

Father God, I bless You today. You alone are worthy of all glory and honor. Thank You for pouring out Your favor and blessing on me. I open my heart and mind to receive everything You have in store for me. In Jesus' Name. Amen.

Dear Lord,

I thank you for this day. I thank You for my being able to see and to hear this morning.. I'm blessed because You are a forgiving God and an understanding God. You have done so much for me and You keep on blessing me. Forgive me this day for everything I have done, said or thought that was not pleasing to you. I ask now for Your forgiveness.
>
>
> Please keep me safe from all danger and harm. Help me to start this day with a new attitude and plenty of gratitude. Let me make the best of each day to clear my mind so that I can hear from You.
>
> Let me not whine and whimper over things I have no control over. Let me continue to see sin through God's eyes and acknowledge it as evil. And when I sin, let me repent, and confess with my mouth my wrongdoing, and receive the forgiveness of God.
>
> And when this world closes in on me, let me remember Jesus' example -- to slip away and find a quiet place to pray. It's the best response when I'm pushed beyond my limits. I know that when I can't pray, You listen to my heart. Continue to use me to do Your will.
>
> Continue to bless me that I may be a blessing to others.. Keep me strong that I may help the weak.. Keep me uplifted that I may have words of encouragement for others. I pray for those who are lost and can't find their way. I pray for those who are misjudged and misunderstood. I pray for those who don't know You intimately. I pray for those who will delete this without sharing it with others. I pray for those who don't believe. But I thank you that I believe.
>
> I believe that God changes people and God changes things. I pray for all my sisters and brothers. For every family member in their households. I pray for peace, love and joy in their homes that they are out of debt and all their needs are met.
>
> I pray that every eye that reads this knows there is no problem, circumstance, or situation greater than God. Every battle is in Your hands for You to fight.   I pray that these words be received into the hearts of every eye that sees them and every mouth that confesses them willingly..
>
> This is my prayer.
> In Jesus' Name,
>
> Amen..
>
> Pass this message to 9 people except you and me   (You can send it to more than 9 people if you would like, I did).

Attain deliverance in disturbances

1. Don't wish for perfect health. In perfect health, there is greed and wanting. So an ancient said, " Make good medicine from the suffering of sickness." 2. Don't hope for life without problems. There are more organisms in a gram of soil than there are human beings on this Earth!

Soil Biota

Soils are populated by a multitude of microbial and invertebrate organisms, in addition to more complex animal biota. Plant roots, seeds, and fungi, are a large part of this microhabitat.

Soil microorganisms play an extensive role in the decomposition of organic matter and production of humus, cycling of nutrients and energy and elemental fixation, soil metabolism, and the production of compounds that cause soil aggregates to form. Many are in symbiotic relationships with plants and animals serving as nitrogen fixers and gut microbes. They function as a substantial part of the food web.

Among the microorganisms found in the soil are bacteria, actinomycetes, fungi, micro-algae, protozoa, nematodes, and other invertebrates (mostly arthropods).

It has been estimated that if you look at one "gram" of soil you will see the following numbers of organisms--bacteria 10 8-9 , actinomycetes 105-8 , fungi 105-6 , micro-algae 103-6 , protozoa 103-5 , nematodes 101-2 , other invertebrates 103-5 . A square meter of soil may contain 30-300 earthworms. There are more organisms in a gram of soil than there are human beings on this Earth!

I hope you are doing it too – begin by being aware of every thought- feeling – all day, the nerves and the brain – then become quiet, still – this is what cannot be done through control – then really begins meditation. Do it with thoroughness."

Jiddu Krishnamurti in a letter to Nandini Mehta

"Meditation is not something different from daily life; do not go off into the corner of a room and meditate for ten minutes, then come out of it and be a butcher-both metaphorically and actually. Meditation is part of life, not something different from life."

Jiddu Krishnamurti, Meditations, page 10.

"Meditation is one of the greatest arts in life-perhaps the greatest, and one cannot possibly learn it from anybody. That is the beauty of it. It has no technique and therefore no authority. When you learn about yourself, watch yourself, watch the way you walk, how you eat, what you say, the gossip, the hate, the jealousy-if you are aware of all that in yourself, without any choice, that is part of meditation."

"So meditation can take place when you are sitting in a bus or walking in the woods full of light and shadows, or listening to the singing of birds or looking at the face of your wife or child."

Jiddu Krishnamurti, Meditations, page 2.

Q. You seem to object even to our sitting quietly everyday to observe the movement of thought. Is this, by your definition, a practice, a method and therefore without value?

K: Now the questioner asks. What is wrong with sitting quietly every morning for twenty minutes, in the afternoon another twenty minutes and perhaps another twenty minutes in the evening or longer – what is wrong with it? By sitting quietly you can relax, you can observe your thinking, your reactions, your responses and your reflexes. What is the motive of those who sit quietly by themselves, or together in a group? What is the motive behind the desire to sit quietly for half an hour every day? Is it not important to find out why you want to do this? Is it because somebody has told you that if you sit quietly you will have para-psychological experiences, that you will attain some kind of peace, some kind of understanding, some kind of enlightenment, or some kind of power?…

So it is important – before we plunge into all this- to find out what is your motive, what it is that you want. But you do not do that. You are so eager and gullible; somebody promises something and you want it. If you examine the motive, you see that it is a desire to achieve something – like a businessman's desire to earn a lot of money. That is his urge. Here the psychological urge is to have something that a guru, or an instructor, promises. You do not question what he promises, you do not doubt what he promises…

Is it true? Who are you to tell me what to do? then you will find that sitting quietly, without understanding your motive, leads to all kinds of illusory psychological trouble. If that is the intention of sitting quietly, then it is not worth it. But if while sitting quietly without any motive, or walking quietly by yourself or with somebody, you watch the trees, the birds, the rivers and the sunshine on the leaves, in that very watching you are also watching yourself. You are not striving, not making tremendous efforts to achieve something …

Is it not possible to be quiet, naturally – to look at a person, or to listen to a song, or to listen to what somebody is saying quietly, without resistance, without saying, "I must change, I must do this, I must do that". Just to be quiet? Is it possible to sit, or stand, or walk quietly, without any promptings from another, without any reward or desire for extraordinary super-physical sensory experiences? Begin at the most rational level; then one can go very far.

Meditation is No Thought

Meditation is a movement in and of the unknown ... it is that energy that though-matter cannot touch. Thought is perversion for it is the product of yesterday ... Everything put together by thought is within the area of noise, and thought can in no way make itself still ... thought itself must be still for silence to be. Silence is always now as thought is not. Thought, always being old, cannot possibly enter into that silence which is always new. The new becomes the old when thought touches it ... Love can only be when thought is still. This stillness can in no way be manufactured by thought ... this stillness can never be touched by thought. Thought is always old, but love is not ... the flowering of goodness is not in the soil of thought'

As in Science, so in religion

My confidence in venturing into science lies in my basic belief that as in science so in Buddhism, understanding the nature of reality is pursued by means of critical investigation: if scientific analysis were conclusively to demonstrate certain claims in Buddhism to be false, then we must accept the findings of science and abandon those claims.

Far more numerous than insects are nematodes...A handful of soil will contain thousands of microscopic worms...ranging in size up to 8 meters...

Nematodes are the most numerous multicellular animals on earth. A handful of soil will contain thousands of the microscopic worms, many of them parasites of insects, plants or animals. Free-living species are abundant, including nematodes that feed on bacteria, fungi, and other nematodes, yet the vast majority of species encountered are poorly understood biologically. There are nearly 20,000 described species classified in the phylum Nemata .

Nematodes are structurally simple organisms. Adult nematodes are comprised of approximately 1,000 somatic cells, and potentially hundreds of cells associated with the reproductive system . Nematodes have been characterized as atube within a tube ; referring to the alimentary canal which extends from the mouth on the anterior end, to the anus located near the tail. Nematodes possess digestive, nervous, excretory, and reproductive systems, but lack a discrete circulatory or respiratory system. In size they range from 0.3 mm to over 8 meters

There are 1.6 billion insects for every human on the planet...Do they worry? So why do you...?

This is not just a Disney tale:

The Entomological Society of America claims insects are "1.6 billion" times as numerous as humans. With just over 6 billion humans, that works out to about 10^19 insects.

That may sound like a lot, but there are many small life-forms that could be more numerous. For example, in soil the insects and mites (a type of arachnid, not an insect) all feed either directly or indirectly off various types of nematodes (a tiny worm, which also is not an insect). Nematodes are animals, and "often outnumber other animals" in many environments so they may be the most numerous animal.

All great religions and science confirm the fundamental unity of all things.

With the ever-growing impact of science on our lives, religion and spirituality have a greater role to play by reminding us of our humanity. There is no contradiction between the two. Each gives us valuable insights into the other. Both science and the teachings of the Buddha tell us of the fundamental unity of all things. This understanding is crucial if we are to take positive and decisive action on the pressing global concern with the environment. I believe all religions pursue the same goals, that of cultivating human goodness and bringing happiness to all human beings. Though the means might appear different the ends are the same.

Trillion Dollars is equivalent to ten billion hundred dollar bills stacked 678 miles tall...

Our nation's deficit of billion of trillions must be put in perspective:

One trillion dollars is represented as $1,000,000,000,000.

Divide that by the hundred dollar bill ($100). For those quick minded math people, you drop 2 zeros.

1,000,000,000,000 / 100 = 10,000,000,000

This means there are TEN BILLION hundred dollar bills in a trillion dollars.

To put that in perspective, the US bill note is about .0043 inches thick. This stack of ten billion hundred dollar bills would be 43,000,000 inches tall. That's three million five hundred eighty-three thousand three hundred thirty-three feet tall. Hard to grasp...scale it up to miles and you get a stack more than 678 miles tall. On it's side, that would be a continuous line of bills stretching from Los Angeles, Ca nearly to Salt Lake City, UT!

Inner peace is the key.

Inner peace is the key: if you have inner peace, the external problems do not affect your deep sense of peace and tranquility. In that state of mind you can deal with situations with calmness and reason, while keeping your inner happiness. That is very important. Without this inner peace, no matter how comfortable your life is materially, you may still be worried, disturbed or unhappy because of circumstances.

To bring happiness...One must first discipline and control one's own mind

To enjoy good health, to bring true happiness to one's family, to bring peace to all, one must first discipline and control one's own mind. If a man can control his mind he can find the way to Enlightenment, and all wisdom and virtue will naturally come to him.

A prayer

I Asked GOD

I asked GOD to take away my pain.
GOD said, "No.  It is not for me to take away,
but for you to give it up."

I asked GOD to make my handicapped child whole.
GOD said, "No.  Her spirit was whole,
her body was only temporary."

I asked GOD to grant me patience.
GOD said, "No.  Patience is a by-product of tribulations;
it isn't granted, it is earned."

I asked GOD to give me happiness.
GOD said, "No.  I give you blessings,
Happiness is up to you."

I asked GOD to spare me pain.
GOD said, "No.  Suffering draws you apart from worldly
cares and brings you closer to me."

I asked GOD to make my spirit grow.
GOD said, "No.  You must grow on your own,
but I will prune you to make you fruitful."

I asked GOD for all things that I might enjoy life.
GOD said, "No.  I will give you life so that you
may enjoy all things."

I asked GOD to help me LOVE others, as much as he loves me.
GOD said, "Ahhh, finally you have the idea."

Eternal identity with pure being

There seem to two kinds of searchers: those who seek to make their ego something other than it is, i.e. holy, happy, unselfish (as though you could make a fish unfish), and those who understand that all such attempts are just gesticulation and play-acting, that there is only one thing that can be done, which is to disidentify themselves with the ego, by realizing its unreality, and by becoming aware of their eternal identity with pure being. - Fingers Pointing Toward the Moon by Wei Wu Wei...

Beauty of the eternal, the unfathomable...Einstein

There are moments when one feels free from one's own identification with human limitations and inadequacies. At such moments one imagines that one stands on some spot of a small planet, gazing in amazement at the cold yet profoundly moving beauty of the eternal, the unfathomable; life and death flow into one, and there is neither evolution nor destiny; only Being. - Albert Einstein ...

All we are is a result of what we have thought.

All that we are is the result of what we have thought. If a man speaks or acts with an evil thought, pain follows him. If a man speaks or acts with a pure thought, happiness follows him, like a shadow that never leaves him.
