It’s Only Temporary
TODAY’S SCRIPTURE
“For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all”
(2 Corinthians 4:17, NIV)
TODAY’S WORD from Joel and Victoria

In this world, we all have troubles and trials, but aren’t you glad that scripture promises that they are only temporary? Today’s verse tells us they are momentary. Compared with eternity, our troubles won’t last long at all! The second part of this verse tells us that when we stand strong in faith during times of adversity, we are building that faith and achieving eternal glory. When you confess your trust and reliance on God, you are passing the test!

If you are in the middle of tough times today, look to God. The Bible says that Jesus is the Author and Finisher of your faith. He is the one who writes faith on your heart and then develops it to completion on the inside of you as you yield yourself to Him. Your part is to seek Him daily. Follow His commands. Open your heart and choose to speak His Word which is alive and active. Remember, your trials are only temporary, but His eternal glory outweighs it all!

A PRAYER FOR TODAY
Heavenly Father, thank You for working Your eternal glory in me. I cast my cares on You, knowing that my trials and troubles are temporary. Thank You for Your eternal blessing on my life today and always in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Your body is precious

"Your body is precious. It is our vehicle for awakening. Treat it with care."

Take the High Road

Take the High Road
TODAY'S SCRIPTURE
"The Lord will fight for you, and you shall hold your peace and remain at rest"
(Exodus 14:14, AMP)
TODAY'S WORD from Joel and Victoria
In life, we're always going to have critics. We'll always have difficult people who try to upset us and steal our peace and joy. But, you don't have to respond to every critic. You can decide to take the high road and let God fight your battles for you.
Sometimes, no matter what you say or do, there are people who aren't going to accept you. They just don't want to be at peace with you. In fact, when Jesus sent out His disciples to certain homes, He told them to always speak peace over those homes. And then He said in effect, "If they don't receive the peace that you're offering, then it will come back to you." That tells me that if you will do your best to be at peace with people, even if they won't take your peace, the good news is that peace will just come back to you. You'll not only get your peace, but you'll get their share as well! That's double for your trouble! When you do the right thing no matter what is happening, God sees it and rewards it. Today, stay in peace, cease from strife, and take the high road. Sow good seeds into others and watch the harvest of blessing come to your own life in return.
A PRAYER FOR TODAY
Father in heaven, I choose to hold my peace. I choose to do the right thing even when the wrong thing is happening. I trust that You are fighting my battles for me. I give You all the honor and praise in Jesus' name. Amen.

Who can add a single hour of life by worrying

TODAY'S SCRIPTURE
"Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life?"
(Matthew 6:27, NIV)
TODAY'S WORD from Joel and Victoria

Is there something that you are worrying about today? To worry means to allow something to revolve in your mind over and over again. God doesn't want you to live worried or anxious about anything. He knows that worry steals your peace and joy. It affects every area of your life. Have you heard the saying, "Don't worry yourself sick?" That's because worrying affects your physical body. It affects your sleep. You won't ever gain anything by worrying; in fact, you'll lose precious moments that you can never get back again. The good news is that God has promised that you can have victory over worry. It starts by making the choice to trust in Him. When you cast your cares on Him, He will give you His peace.

Decide today to put an end to worry in your life. Choose to feed your faith and fill your mind with God's promises. As you focus on God's Word, you'll drive out worry and fill your heart with faith and expectancy; and you'll be empowered to move forward into the life of blessing He has in store for you!

A PRAYER FOR TODAY
Heavenly Father, today I choose to put an end to worry in my life. I choose to feed my faith by studying Your promises and declaring Your Word over my life. Help me to totally trust in You today and every day in Jesus' name. Amen.

Meditation Brings Wisdom

"Meditation brings wisdom; lack of mediation leaves ignorance. Know well what leads you forward and what holds you back, and choose the path that leads to wisdom."

Misfortunes originate in the mind, control the inner mind

"It is wrong to think that misfortunes come from the east or from the west; they originate within one's own mind. Therefore, it is foolish to guard against misfortunes from the external world and leave the inner mind uncontrolled."

If a man lives a pure life, nothing can destroy him.

"On life's journey faith is nourishment, virtuous deeds are a shelter, wisdom is the light by day and right mindfulness is the protection by night. If a man lives a pure life, nothing can destroy him."

God will shelter us when in need

TODAY'S SCRIPTURE
"In the day of trouble he will keep me safe in his dwelling; he will hide me in the shelter of his tabernacle and set me high upon a rock"
(Psalm 27:5, NIV)
TODAY'S WORD from Joel and Victoria
Have you ever watched children play hide and seek? They look for the best place to hide in the house or yard and wait quietly for their friend to try to find them. It's a fun game for kids, but even as adults, we need a good place to hide from time to time. Sometimes we need a place of refuge, we need a place of safety, and we need a place to rest when we feel overwhelmed by the circumstances of life — a place where the enemy of our soul can never find us.
The good news is that God has the perfect hiding place for you! You don't have to hide in your job. You don't have to hide in relationships. You don't have to hide in food or addictions because God Himself promises to hide you! He freely offers you shelter from the storms of life any time you call upon His name.
Remember, there's only one place the enemy cannot find you. There's only one place where opposition cannot steal from you. There's only one true place of safety and rest for your soul, and that is in the arms of Jesus. Know that He loves you, and He is ready to receive you when you call upon His name!
A PRAYER FOR TODAY
Father, today I come humbly before You giving You all that I am. Thank You for hiding me in Your shelter and keeping me safe from the storms of life. My soul finds rest in You as I seek You and praise Your holy name in Jesus' name. Amen.

Know When to Turn Away

TODAY'S SCRIPTURE
"It is an honor for a man to cease from strife..."
(Proverbs 20:3, KJV)
TODAY'S WORD from Joel and Victoria
In life, many of the challenges we face are simply distractions from the enemy to keep us from pursuing our destiny. Maybe someone in the office isn't as friendly to you as you'd like. Maybe you have a neighbor who always parks in front of your house and blocks your mailbox. Those things may be frustrating, but they have little significance when you look at the big picture of eternity. You can't allow the little things to cause strife in your life.
In scripture, just before David fought the giant Goliath, his brother Iliab tried to confront him. But David knew that arguing with Iliab wasn't even worth his time and strength. He knew his real battle was with Goliath, and he didn't want to be distracted. He simply "turned away" from Iliab and kept his focus on what he was called to do.
Let's follow the example of David and keep our eyes on what's most important in life. Instead of being led away by frustrations, let's focus on the big picture. Know when to turn away from strife and receive the mark of honor the Lord has for you!
A PRAYER FOR TODAY
Father God, thank You for Your hand of victory in my life. Give me the wisdom and courage I need to walk away from strife so I can focus on the destiny You have prepared for me. I love You and bless You today and always in Jesus' name. Amen.

Retrain Your Brain
TODAY’S SCRIPTURE
“And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God”
(Romans 12:2, NKJV)
TODAY’S WORD from Joel and Victoria

Living in victory means that sometimes you have to develop new habits. If you’ve been negative for a long time, you’ve got to re-train your thinking from “I can’t” to “I can;” from “It won’t happen” to “It will happen;” from “I’ll never get well” to “God is restoring health unto me;” from “I never get any good breaks” to “God’s favor surrounds me like a shield;” from “I’ve made too many mistakes. I’m all washed up” to “I’m redeemed and forgiven. My best days are still out in front of me.” It’s like reprogramming a computer. Sometimes you have to wipe off the old, outdated, dysfunctional software and load in something new.

If you’ve spent your days focused on how things won’t work, it’s time to focus on how things will work out! It doesn’t matter how bad it looks, how many people have told you no, or how long it’s been that way, God has the final say. It’s not over till God says it’s over. Shake off the self-pity. Shake off the disappointment. Let go of the old and choose to believe Him. Declare His promises over your life and see His blessing and victory as you align yourself with Him!

A PRAYER FOR TODAY
Father God, thank You for the transformation power in Your Word! Thank You for giving me hope for my future. I choose to trust You, I choose to believe Your word, and I choose to declare Your truth and watch victory unfold in Jesus’ name! Amen.

Do not be afraid, believe, and she will be made well

TODAY'S SCRIPTURE
"But when Jesus heard it, He answered him, saying, " 'Do not be afraid; only believe, and she will be made well' "
(Luke 8:50, NKJV)
TODAY'S WORD from Joel and Victoria
In Scripture a man came to Jesus and said, "My little daughter is very sick. She is close to death. Will You come to my home and pray for her?" Jesus agreed. But along the way He kept getting stopped, one interruption after another. Finally, word came back to Him saying, "No need to come. You've waited too late. The little girl has died."
The people were upset and very distraught. But Jesus said to them in Luke 8:50 "Don't be afraid. If you will only believe, the little girl will be well." Notice the phrase, "Only believe." Jesus went to the home, laid hands on the little girl, and she came back to life.
Are you facing a situation that seems impossible? In the natural, you don't see how you can get well, or how you can overcome the addiction, or how your family can ever be restored? God is saying to you what He said to them, "If you will only believe, I will turn the situation around. If you only believe, breakthroughs are headed your way!"
A PRAYER FOR TODAY
Father, thank You for Your hand of victory upon my life. Thank You for making a way even when there seems to be no way. I choose to stand in faith. I choose to believe, knowing that You are ready, willing and able to cause me to overcome in this life in Jesus' name. Amen.

...His favor lasts a lifetime...

TODAY'S SCRIPTURE
"...his favor lasts a lifetime..."
(Psalm 30:5, NIV)
TODAY'S WORD from Joel and Victoria
Friends, success in this life isn't necessarily about how popular, influential or educated someone is. Success is about living a life of excellence in obedience to God's Word. When we step out to do what God has called us to do, scripture says that His favor surrounds us like a shield. When we have His favor, we have everything, and we have an advantage for success!
God's favor opens the right doors. His favor will bring good breaks. The favor of God will cause you to accomplish what you could not accomplish on your own. It gives you an edge. Now, if you're going to see the gracious hand of God at work in your life, you can't go through the day feeling intimidated, thinking that you're average, looking around and comparing yourself to everyone else. No, you have to live like you have His favor, think like you have favor, talk like you have favor, walk like you have favor, dress like you have favor! Not arrogantly. Not in a way that portrays that you're better than somebody else, but with a quiet confidence knowing that you have the gracious hand of God on your life! Live like you've got it because you do!
A PRAYER FOR TODAY
Father, thank You for Your grace, favor and mercy upon my life. I praise You today because You are good. I receive Your truth by faith and rise up to walk in my calling. I know that You are going before me to prepare the way as I walk in Your favor all the days of my life in Jesus' name. Amen.

INDIAN LEGEND

Cherokee Indian legend

Do you know the legend of the Cherokee Indian youth's rite of Passage?

His father takes him into the forest, blindfolds him and leaves him alone.

He is required to sit on a stump the whole night and not remove the blindfold until the rays of the morning sun shine through it. He cannot cry out for help to anyone.

Once he survives the night, he is a MAN.

He cannot tell the other boys of this experience, because each lad must come into manhood on his own.

The boy is naturally terrified. He can hear all kinds of noises. Wild beasts must surely be all around him. Maybe even some human might do him harm. The wind blew the grass and earth, and shook his stump, but he sat
stoically, never removing the blindfold. It would be the only way he could become a man!
Finally, after a horrific night the sun appeared and he removed his
blindfold.

It was then that he discovered his father sitting on the stump next to him.

He had been at watch the entire night, protecting his son from harm.

We, too, are never alone.
Even when we don't know it, God is watching over
us, Sitting on the stump beside us.
When trouble comes, all we have to do
is reach out to Him.

Moral of the story:
Just because you can't see God,
Doesn't mean He is not there.
"For we walk by faith, not by sight."

If you liked this story, pass it on.
If not, you took off your blindfold
before dawn.

If problem is fixable, no need to worry, if not fixable, then no need to worry

"If a problem is fixable, if a situation is such that you can do something about it, then there is no need to worry. If it's not fixable, then there is no help in worrying. There is no benefit in worrying whatsoever."

In meditative mindfulness ... Washington Post

In meditative mindfulness, Rep. Tim Ryan sees a cure for many American ills

By Neely Tucker, Published: April 4

http://www.washingtonpost.com/lifestyle/style/in-meditative-mindfulness-rep-tim-ryan-sees-a-cure-for-many-american-ills/2012/04/04/gIQA1mk8vS_print.html

Rep. Tim Ryan (D) is a five-term incumbent from the heartland. His Ohio district includes Youngstown and Warren and part of Akron and smaller places. He's 38, Catholic, single. He was a star quarterback in high school. He lives a few houses down from his childhood home in Niles. He's won three of his five elections with about 75 percent of the vote.
So when he starts talking about his life-changing moment after the 2008 race, you're not expecting him to lean forward at the lunch table and tell you, with great sincerity, that this little story of American politics is about (a) a raisin and (b) nothing else.
"You hold this one raisin right up to your mouth, but you don't put it in, and after a moment your mouth starts to water," he says, describing an exercise during a five-day retreat into the meditative technique of mindfulness, developed from centuries of Buddhist practice. "The teaching point is that your body responds to things outside of it, that there's a mind-body connection. It links to how we take on situations and how this results in a great deal of stress."
For Ryan, the raisin was the beginning of a transformation. The retreat, conducted by Jon Kabat-Zinn, founder of the Stress Reduction Clinic at the University of Massachusetts Medical School, led Ryan on a search into how the practice of mindfulness — sitting in silence, losing oneself in the present moment — could be a tonic for what ails the body politic.
In "A Mindful Nation," published last week, Ryan details his travels across the country, to schools and companies and research facilities, documenting how mindfulness is relieving stress, improving performance and showing potential to reduce health-care costs. It is a prescription, he says, that can help the nation better deal with the constant barrage of information that the Internet age delivers.
"I think when you realize that U.S. Marines are using this that it's already in the mainstream of our culture," he says. "It's a real technique that has real usefulness that has been scientifically documented. . . . Why wouldn't we have this as part of our health-care program to prevent high levels of stress that cause heart disease and ulcers and Type 2 diabetes and everything else?"
In the book, Ryan meets with the parents of a young soldier who committed suicide. He talks with Richard Davidson, director of the Lab for Affective Neuroscience at the University of Wisconsin at Madison, who has studied the effects of mindfulness on brain development. And he meets with Goldie Hawn, who established a foundation that teaches meditative practices to schoolchildren.
Ryan meditates in a half-lotus position for about 40 minutes each day, he says, sitting on his couch at home or on a cushion. He is optimistic about things. People are "fundamentally good," he writes in the book. "Our basic nature is not unadulterated self-indulgence and consumption. Our spirit is not violent. Our soul does not desire that we get rich by any means necessary."
Among other committee assignments, he serves with Rep. John Sullivan (R-Okla.) as a co-chairman of the House Addiction, Treatment and Recovery Caucus. Sullivan says Ryan's work on meditation has aided the caucus's mission.
"Tim brings a lot to our work on mental health, with addiction and recovery, with his focus on mindfulness," Sullivan says. "It adds to the cutting-edge brain research that's now developing on how to treat addiction."
At the moment, Ryan is stumping for book sales and the message, not for votes. In Washington, he'll speak Wednesday at the River Road Unitarian Universalist Congregation in Bethesda.
Back home, he's got a gig scheduled for early summer at the Congregation Ohev Tzedek in a suburb of Youngstown. Rabbi Josh Jacobs-Velde says the four-hour event will feature Ryan and others teaching, talking and practicing mindfulness. (A potluck dinner follows, of course.)
"Youngstown, Ohio, is not the center of mindfulness training in the country," Jacobs-Velde says, laughing. "But we're hoping to raise some awareness of the benefits of just stopping and allowing your mind to settle. It's really transformative. . . . That a congressman from Youngstown is doing this is wonderful."
